Coach Carlos Bernegger can be satisfied. At the last meeting with FC Winterthur, which also took place in the Stockhorn Arena on October 20th, FC Thun Berner Oberland suffered a 1-0 defeat. On Saturday, December 5th, FC Winterthur was back on the pitch in Thun as a visiting team. The Zurich team was disciplined and brought the leather dangerously close to the Thun goal several times. Carlos Bernegger’s team held out and was able to strike back. Only at the end did it fail. The even game ended in a draw.
Thun goalie Andreas Hirzel shone with great saves and kept his goal clean.

Good start
FC Thun Berner Oberland started strong in the first half and can keep the majority of the ball in possession. The Thuners skillfully put FC Winterthur under pressure. But advancing to the opposing goal is difficult. During the first half, the Thuner managed only one shot on goal. Meanwhile, FC Winterthur is struggling to get the ball off the Oberlanders. The utilization of the chances is much better with the Zurich. So they make the Thun goalie Andreas Hirzel sweat several times. For example with a goal kick in the 41st minute when Winterthur midfielder Remo Arnold tried to head the ball into the net. Andreas Hirzel is there immediately, but Arnold misjudges himself and overshoots the goal. FC Thun then starts a counterattack, but fails at the Winterthur midfield.
In the 46th minute there is another dangerous scene in front of the Thuner Tor. Here Andreas Hirzel shines with an incredible parade. Winterthur’s Davide Callà can play a pass from the left edge of the field to Roman Buess who is standing directly in front of the Thuner Tor. This continues to fit the Granite Lekaj that pulls off. But he only hits Thun defender Nikki Havenaar’s back. The ball lands back at Roman Buess who shoots again on goal. With an unbelievable save, Andreas Hirzel barely reached the ball and was able to deflect it against the post. Seconds later, the first half is whistled.

After the half-time break, FC Thun tries to find the end. In the 60th minute of the game, Gabriel Kyeremateng succeeded on the left edge of the field and played Dominik Schwizer. Schwizer closes, but fails at Winterthur goalkeeper Dario Marzino. A pass in the 73rd minute to Kyeremateng, who is alone in front of the Winterthur goal, comes too high and rolls out. Here, too, the Thun would have been able to graduate. But even in the second half, Andreas Hirzel shows his skills when FC Winterthur comes dangerously close to the goal. He can again deflect a shot with his fingertips against the post. The game ends in a deserved tie between two equal opponents.
The day before, FC Thun received home rights for the game against FC Winterthur. The game was postponed at short notice because the place on the Winterthurer Schützenwiese was not playable. Accordingly, Thun will have to compete twice in Winterthur in the spring.
