Corpse in Thurgau Forest – Police are investigating clues

Horrible find

Investigations into the finding of a dead person in Egnacher Waldstück continue: After a witness is called, several clues are checked

In a forest near Egnach, a man discovered the remains of a person on Saturday morning. According to the Thurgau canton police, “the entire body was not found”. The forest will be searched again on Monday, and the police are following up several clues from the population.

On Saturday morning, shortly after 10 a.m., a man discovered the remains of a person in a wooded area near the Egnach “Sangehölzli”. He immediately informed the police. Specialists from the Forensic Service of the Thurgau Canton Police and the Institute for Forensic Medicine St.Gallen secured the traces at the site until evening.

Information from the population is checked

As Daniel Meili, media spokesman for the Thurgau cantonal police, informed on Monday morning on request, after the call for witnesses, several reports were received from the population. These would now be checked. In addition, the police are searching the forest again.

Daniel Meili cannot answer the question of whether there is a connection with a woman from Bottighofen who has been missing since mid-November. Neither the cause of death nor the identity of the dead person found have been clarified. The missing woman has not yet been found. If a corpse is found, a comparison with missing persons from home and abroad is made if necessary.

Was it an animal?

Daniel Meili goes on to say that “the entire body was not found”. For reasons of tactical investigations, the Kapo media spokesman cannot reveal what exactly the passer-by has discovered. “But that does not automatically indicate a violent crime.” Animals could also be responsible for the condition of the corpse, depending on how long the corpse had been in the forest.

It is so far unclear whether the dead person is a woman or a man. The remains were transferred to the Institute for Forensic Medicine in St.Gallen for the purpose of identifying and investigating the cause of death. Meili:

“The investigations are going in all directions.”

According to the media spokesman, the man found the body parts on the southern edge of the said wood in the direction of the hamlet of Fetzisloh. The main road between Arbon and Romanshorn runs through on the other side. The adult private person who made the gruesome find did not need any psychological care.

Not the first such find in Thurgau

It is not the first time that a corpse has caused a stir in a forest in the canton of Thurgau. At the end of January 2018, Manfred Hunziker found a woman’s corpse rolled up in a green carpet in his forest in the Wilderetobel near Zezikon. It later emerged that the dead woman was Isabella T., a missing woman from Aargau. Initially, the investigators assumed the murder was premeditated. The authorities now speculate that Isabella T. died of a drug overdose. The investigations against the three men continue, it is also about failure to provide emergency aid and disturbance of the peace of the dead.

At the end of November this year, the St. Gallen District Court sentenced a 37-year-old Serb to 16 years imprisonment for the murder of a compatriot. The perpetrator killed his victim because of gambling debts and then killed the corpse in a wooded area near the hamlet Powder house burned. A walker had found the charred corpse in the forest.
