The Zittau electoral association Zkm again denounced the alleged cooperation between the left and the AfD in the Zittau city council. Group leader Thomas Schwitzky has an open letter to Mirko Schultze (left), Member of the state parliament and chairman of the district parliamentary group of his party. In it he asks Schultze: “How does your party feel about truthfulness in political action?”
The background to the question is the comrades’ repeated assurance that there is and will not be any cooperation with the AfD at any level. But that is exactly what happens in the Zittau city council, Schwitzky repeats allegations from 2019. He takes the scandal provoked by the AfD, the Left and the FFF faction a week ago as an opportunity to point it out again. “It was your parliamentary group chairman in the local city council who announced in advance for your own parliamentary group and expressly for the AfD and FUW / FBZ / FDP factions that the Zittau city council would be unable to quorate if you were asked to change the agenda does not comply, “he writes. “And as it was announced, it was then carried out. Your representatives of the party Die Linke moved” hand in hand “with the AfD faction out of the city parliament and forced the meeting to be broken off.” Important decisions could not have been made.
Schwitzky asks Schultze whether that is the truth of the Left. And: “Can it really be right to reject cooperation with the AfD at any level and in any form in public statements. But then to do exactly that again and again in a local parliament?”
As early as 2019, the factions of the Zkm and CDU / Greens / FW tried in a previously unique step to reveal the cooperation between the left and AfD. At that time, the two parliamentary groups were suspected of having elected the AfD parliamentary group leader as deputy mayor. They countered this with affidavits – which in terms of voting proportions in the city council meant that the left had to have voted for the AfD man. In numerous other votes on controversial draft resolutions, the AfD and the Left voted identically.
Left and AfD in the Zittau city council deny targeted cooperation. Regarding the current case, the three left-wing city councilors Jens Hentschel-Thöricht, Wolfgang Bruns and Michael Schostek explain in a message that in some cases they have decided on the basis of independent reviews to vote in the same way as the AfD, without knowing the right’s voting behavior beforehand . According to their communication, this will not change in the future either, as they want to remain true to their policy.
The district association of the left has now, according to its own statements, pulled the case on the table and wants to investigate the new suspicion of cooperation. “Our internal party discussion will still take some time,” said district chairwoman Antonia Mertsching. Then the result will be published. A reaction from Schultze is pending.
In the case more than a year ago, the state left had stood behind their Zittau party members at the SZ request. “Our comrades on site have credibly and of course ruled out any voting arrangements with the extreme right,” said a spokesman when asked by the SZ. “We have no reason to doubt their statements. Even affidavits do nothing to change that, because against the background of the secret election there is absolutely no way of checking any false statements.”
