On Sunday, Kristers Aparjods won the 3rd place in the World Luge Cup on the Altenberg track in Germany, where the distribution of seats in the races was significantly affected by different ice conditions, according to the organizers. Aparjods took the 13th place after the first trip, but at the end of the second trip he climbed to the podium.
The Olympic and world champion German Felix Lohs won, finishing in two minutes and 50,395 seconds in the sum of two races, although after the first race he took only the 17th place. At the end of the second race, his compatriot Max Langenhans was 0.303 seconds slower, but Aparjods spent another three thousandths longer on the track.
Riks Kristens Rozītis took the 16th place, junior Gints Bērziņš finished the competition in the 24th place, but after the first race in the third position the former Artūrs Dārznieks was in the 25th place in the competition of 32 participants.
In the first race, Dārznieks and Rozītis were able to use the ice conditions that were grateful to the participants who started earlier, climbing to the 3rd and 5th place, respectively. Aparjods (13th) and Bērziņš (26th) took further positions.
At the end of the second stage of the season, the team relay will take place later on Sunday.
It has already been reported that on Saturday the best result in the Latvian team was the 4th place of the two-man crew Andris and Juris Šicis, but the 7th place for the women was won by Kendija Aparjode.
