Legislative elections in Venezuela | Editorials | Opinion

The parliamentary electoral process in Venezuela, called for today, in which all the seats in the National Assembly will be renewed, takes place within the framework of a multi-dimensional crisis.

More than five million Venezuelans had to migrate forcibly and in that territory more than seven million demand assistance and protection, in accordance with the United Nations humanitarian assistance plan.

Most of the opposition parties decided not to participate, denouncing irregularities in the planning of the elections, which leads them to presume that they are probably fraudulent. However, with the argument of “seeking solutions to the crisis of democracy in the medium and long term”, a small group of parties that define themselves as opponents agreed with the Madurismo to stand in the legislative elections designing some modifications, such as the increase out of a hundred deputies, who give 277 in total, which apparently gives it some legitimacy.

Even so, these elections are not recognized by the European Union or the United States, in addition to several dozen nations, including Ecuador.

The international delegations invited to observe the elections are: Argentina, Iran, the United States, Paraguay, Ireland, Turkey, Colombia, Brazil and Mexico; Among them, Ecuadorian politicians of the citizens’ revolution stand out, such as Rafael Correa, Ricardo Patiño and Gabriela Rivadeneira, who, according to the Vice President of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, have gone to “accompany the people of Venezuela to the historic electoral process that will purge the Venezuelan Parliament of stateless and anti-national factors ”.

The ruling party plans to win the elections and regain control of the Congress that it lost in 2015. But these elections, apparently, will not affect the correction of the course of that country, whose inflation will close at 1,800% this year, the highest in the world. world, according to estimates by the Ecoanalítica consultancy.
