Three bottlenecks
Von der Leyen and Johnson also referred to these areas. Without agreements on these three bottlenecks, a trade agreement is not feasible, they say in a joint statement.
The United Kingdom left the European Union at the end of January. Until the end of this year, a transition period will apply during which the British still have to comply with European rules. If no trade agreement is concluded on January 1, the rules of the world trade organization WTO will apply. In practice, this means that reciprocal import duties are imposed on products.
