Activision Blizzard Sues Netflix Over Alleged CFO Poaching

Activision Blizzard is not satisfied with the streaming service.

According to the filed court documents, Activision Blizzard is suing the streaming giant Netflix for allegedly stealing from one of the game company’s top executives.

In 2018, Activision CFO Spencer Neumann left the company to join Netflix for the same role. The game’s publisher appears to be displeased with the way the streaming service was handled until the acquisition.

In a lawsuit filed yesterday (via Variety), Activision attorneys criticized Netflix’s handling of the hiring. He says: “Netflix has shown a pattern of caring only about attracting and employing whoever Netflix wants, regardless of whether it breaks the law along the way.”

In addition, it alleges that “Netflix’s illegal conduct is neither groundbreaking nor groundbreaking, it only reflects Netflix’s disregard for California state law.”

Netflix has been sued twice before for similar behavior by Fox and Viacom.

To further complicate this, the alleged poaching occurred after the two companies had been negotiating a partnership at around the same time. The lawsuit reads: “To make matters worse, Netflix engaged in its unlawful conduct when Activision, with Neumann’s help, was negotiating with Netflix for a trade partnership to distribute Activision’s linear media content.”
