It’s today, it’s today! The event to donate to CRIT Poza Rica

Poza Rica, Ver.- Despite being clearly prohibited by the General Directorate of Games and Raffles, within the Flores Magón neighborhood there are shops where slot machines are located; the same happens in some markets of the city such as “Los Portales”.

This week the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation protected a citizen to whom 19 machines were insured in 2017, presumably for violating article 12 of the Federal Law of Games and Raffles, which dates back 73 years.

According to the first chamber, the foregoing because this law is ambiguous. And certainly, within it, created during the administration of Miguel Alemán Valdés, then President of the United Mexican States, there are basic gaps such as the consideration of slot machines and therefore, their definition.

In addition, although the same address requires its prohibition, the Ministry of the Interior (Segob), on which the aforementioned body depends, can grant permits to whoever meets the requirements to operate a casino, where these machines also exist.

However, in article 12 of the regulations of the Federal Law on Games and Draws there is a broader scope on slot machines, which it defines as “any device, through which the user, subject to skill, performs a bet, through the insertion of money, token, electronic device or any object of payment, in order to obtain a prize not determined in advance ”, which is prohibited in any of its modalities.

In the case of those identified in businesses located in the streets of Colegio Militar, Simón Bolívar and Antonio J. Bermúdez, their characteristics clearly agree with those stipulated in the aforementioned regulation; Despite this, they operate without any authority intervening.

It was even on the last of those streets as well as on Ignacio Aldama, when in January 2017, while still being the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), elements of the Criminal Investigation Agency secured 15 slot machines. But since then, a three-year period has elapsed and in the aforementioned artery and its surroundings, as well as in “Los Portales”, these devices are once again observed, which at least yesterday showed their greatest adherents in adolescents and middle-aged people, especially males.

Although in casinos it allows the existence of these machines, Segob justifies their prohibition in other places, because they are a source of corruption of minors, “an addiction that opens the door to crime”; it also points out that “they represent a latent danger to society” and “generate a false expectation of obtaining financial rewards without making a greater effort.”
