The German cult, which neo-Nazis and other right-wing extremists attach, is an ideological construct and historically not justifiable /.
As if the Hitler dictatorship had never happened, the myth of the Germanic is still up to this day in the minds of neo-Nazis and other right-wing extremists. They are said to have been a superior people, led by charismatic, battle-hardened rulers such as the Cheruscan prince Hermann, for whom Kaiser Wilhelm I had a huge monument erected in Detmold. There is a lot of messing around with the Germanic peoples, whose history is rather sparsely transmitted. An inventory of facts and fictions.
An image of the Germanic peoples that dominated well into the 20th century (and for some beyond that) can be found in the German poet Heinrich von Kleist, who is still respected today. In 1809 he wrote his drama “Die Hermannsschlacht”, from which the following scene originates:
The Prince of the Sueven, Marbod: “Heil, I call, Hermann, you the savior of Germania! (…) The fatherland must have a ruler. And because the crown was otherwise, at the time of the gray fathers, glorious among your tribe: Up your parting will fall back! ” And his generals immediately agree: “Heil, Hermann! Heil dir, King of Germania!” The princes of the Chatti and Sicambrians join in: “Heil, King Hermann, all Germans you!”
Not only because of this constant “Heil” -call is the piece today …
