Consumer organization Test Achats calls Basic Fit to the mat. The Dutch fitness chain continues to charge subscription fees to its customers, although they remain in front of a closed door. Test Purchase therefore declares Basic Fit in default and calls on the chain to comply with the law.

In order to contain the spread of the corona virus, fitness clubs, among other things, were closed in our country. Consumers with a subscription to a club have therefore been forced to play sports at home since 23 October. Nevertheless, Test Achats receives a lot of complaints from people who are stunned that Basic Fit continues to charge a subscription fee.

Illegal

“Dissatisfied customers tell us they’ve contacted the company, which offers them the option of making a small refund deducted from future monthly installments. This is just illegal, ”said Simon November, spokesman for Test Purchase. The consumer organization has therefore sent a notice of default to the Dutch fitness chain and asks to suspend subscriptions and payments for the duration of the quarantine measures. In addition, she asks for a full refund of the monthly payments wrongly received since October 23.

Also during the first lockdown in March, Test Achats had to call the fitness chain to the mat for the same reason. Basic Fit then presented the customers with three options to compensate for the closure of the rooms. “This time too, we hope that Basic Fit will do what it is legally supposed to do and communicate this clearly to customers via email and on the website,” emphasizes Test Achats.
