Schools – Cologne – City Association warns against too rapid introduction of self-tests – education

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) – The North Rhine-Westphalia City Council has warned against introducing corona self-tests in schools and daycare centers too quickly. If teachers and educators were to carry out the tests themselves, they would need expert and practical instructions, said Helmut Dedy, the managing director of the North Rhine-Westphalia City Council, Helmut Dedy, of the “Rheinische Post” (Friday). Training is necessary for this. “That’s why we don’t expect numerous self-tests to take place in daycare centers and schools from Friday.”

Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn (CDU) had told the newspapers the Funke media group that schools and daycare centers could “independently obtain and use rapid tests from Friday”. According to his ministry, this is made possible by the recently adopted changes to the Infection Protection Act and by a change in the Medical Device Dispensing Ordinance, which comes into force this Friday.

Dedy asked for it to be clarified quickly which rapid tests met strict quality criteria. Appropriate certification by an authority is necessary for this. Otherwise, false negative values could increase the rate of infection because they lead to “people no longer behaving carefully”.
