Bioware General Manager Casey Hudson and Dragon Age CEO Mark Darrah have both announced their retirement from the prestigious studio.
Hudson joined Bioware in 1998, and has been a major figure in projects such as Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and Mass Effect. In his farewell message Hudson writes that it was a very difficult decision to leave Bioware. However, he writes that the time has come for a change, both for himself and for the studio.
– It is great and humbling to look back on a career that spans several decades and think about the things we have achieved together. It is a difficult decision to move on, but I am excited about what will happen next, for all of us, says Hudson.
Darrah also made his Bioware debut in the late 90’s. During his time at the studio, he has been listed as the lead producer on all of the main games in the Dragon Age series. He also tells that it was difficult to say goodbye.
– This has been a very difficult decision for me. The team of amazing developers at Dragon Age makes my life a lot better. They have taught me so much. But the strength of the team is also what makes this possible. I know that Dragon Age will not only survive without me, it will do great.
All projects continue as before
In a separate letter EA’s Laura Miele thanked both developers for everything they have contributed. As Miele says, Christian Dailey, former Anthem boss, will take over the management of the Dragon Age series. The search for a replacement for Hudson is underway, and in the meantime, EA’s Samantha Ryan will lead.
The extent to which the changes will affect existing Bioware projects is not known. According to IGN, however, all projects will continue as planned. The developer is working on, among other things Dragon Age 4, Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, a brand new Mass Effect game and the comprehensive the overhaul of Anthem.
