Twitch is experiencing a new function call “Boost this stream “, which is causing debate over the risk of making smaller channels disappear. The Boost option is unlocked by a Community Challenge and requires viewers to spend channel points on it to unlock the reward. Basically it serves to push the stream to the most visible part of the platform, making it more visible. The streamer is notified when the challenge is available and can invite his viewers to work to fill the bar for Boost.
Concerns relate to the application of the system. Basically it is Twitch who chooses the channels to activate the promotion and decides the numbers to do to get the Boost. The only limit has been imposed on users, who can spend a maximum of 2,000 points per day.
Naturally put in this way, the new feature seems to favor the big streamers, those with the largest communities, who also hardly need visibility. Twitch replied that the amount of points needed for the boost will depend on the number of viewers on a channel, even though it didn’t specify precise metrics. Everything is very vague, as always on Twitch. Fortunately, the Boost is still in an experimental phase and there is time to make everything more transparent.
