This is such a bastard year! Without getting involved in much more important and demanding speeches, I remain in our world of football and I believe that Fiorentina were already abundantly troubled to be able to avoid the Covid tile from Cesare Prandelli. I’m happy to know that the Coach is asymptomatic, but his absence could affect the already tragic purple path, without detracting from deputy Pin and the entire technical staff. “It could be worse, it could rain” (as I write it is still doing it) is a famous phrase from Frankenstein Junior that says Igor (not the purple defender!) And that could make us smile but makes us understand how there is no end to bad luck, that when you think you have hit rock bottom, even worse could happen, always with due respect for the really serious and important things in life.
After the two days of rest granted to the team, I hope that the boys have been able to recharge their batteries from a physical point of view after last week’s commitments between the Italian Cup and the league, because Monday’s match against Genoa is a sad one, but basic, direct confrontation in the very low part of the ranking. Surely Prandelli will give all the necessary directives to whoever replaces him, but the presence and depth of the technician are not easily compensated. It therefore remains to be understood what the psychological repercussions may be on the players who do not already seem to me in good shape.
What has been underlined by many, including Cesare, is the emotional lightness of the viola and never before has the atmosphere been tense. I have repeatedly said that the players are lucky because without fans at the stadium they do not suffer from performance anxiety or rather no one whistles them and openly disputes them. What, however, goes through the minds of most, was written in the banner that appeared this week at the Franchi and I think it is right that the message arrives loud and clear: the fans have broken the boxes of this bad habit. The passion and affection we have for Fiorentina must not be trampled by embarrassing performances and listless and not very incisive attitudes.
I therefore hope that someone will be able to wake up from this torpor and take the team by the hand to lift it from these insidious quicksand. Will Ribery think about it, who for now is far from last year’s performances and who, after the theft, no longer seems in tune with Florence? Captain Pezzella will think about it, thanks to the compliments of the coach “with 5 Pezzella we would fight for the Champions League” but at the time put in the square by Pradè who said that the defender had brought an offer from Milan? Will our midfield take care of it, made up of good players (Amrabat, Castrovilli) but still not finding the right set-up? Will our striker take care of it? Oh yeah, we don’t have that one or rather not a determining one as we would like to have for years. Without Cesare, we can’t afford to have all these important pieces still missing.
Meanwhile, we remain with bated breath in the hope that the virus has not been contracted by other members or players because this would greatly complicate the already difficult purple path.
