Young asylum seekers in Oisterwijk have difficulty with quarantine: incident with knife and extra security | Inland

That writes Omroep Brabant. The more than 40 young people, between 13 and 18 years old, have to be quarantined because five infections were reported. That is difficult. On Thursday and Saturday, the police were involved because someone went crazy.

For example, there was an incident with a knife on Thursday. Eight police cars and an ambulance arrived on the scene. “They are adolescents you are going to lock up. We cannot do that physically, nor can we stop them. Technically, the young people are allowed to walk outside if they want to, but it is up to us to get them to not do so, ”says location manager Caroline Rombouts. “99 percent behaved exemplary.”

Still, according to the survey by Omroep Brabant, the COA has its hands full with the young asylum seekers. 13 additional staff members were deployed, such as security guards and street coaches. “The security guards were in front of every building day and night. As soon as a young person wanted to go outside or had a question, we were called in by the security guards to help ”, says Rombouts.

The youngsters had to stay in their own barracks day and night because the school was also closed due to corona. Since this Wednesday, the first young people are allowed to leave again.
