Another event forced to reinvent itself. The 36th Montreuil (Seine-Saint-Denis) Youth Book and Press Fair, constrained by health restrictions, opens on Wednesday with a new format. Most of it will take place on a dedicated TV channel.
In partnership with viàGrandParis (a local news television), the channel is available on TNT (channel 34) and the boxes of various telecom operators, with programs 24 hours a day, live from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. then delayed. It broadcasts until Monday.
Literary programs planned
The Salon promises “literary programs, illustration workshops, films, cartoons… for all audiences”. France Télévisions, among others, presents animated previews there. The event, with 500 partner bookstores and libraries, has some 200 guest authors.
The Salon has reallocated part of its budget to the distribution of 25,000 books to secondary school students in Seine-Saint-Denis, bought from booksellers in this department, and all signed.
180,000 visitors usually
“It’s a gift we keep. If you don’t read it right away, you can find out later, ”said writer Marie Desplechin, quoted by the departmental council. The Fair usually welcomes around 180,000 visitors.
“We had not imagined, while preparing him, to be still in confinement in December. But it seemed important to us to be there with the same literary quality as usual, to keep this magical moment of children’s literature ”, explained the director of the Salon, Sylvie Vassallo.
