Argentine prosecutor raids the home of a Maradona psychiatrist

Argentine investigators raided the home of a psychiatrist who was dealing with the late soccer star Diego Maradona, as part of the investigation into the death of the stadium legend last week, and under a court order, prosecutors searched the home and office of psychiatrist Agustina Cosacov in Buenos Aires just as they searched an office and a house Maradona’s personal physician Leopoldo Loki on Sunday.

“These are routine procedures that are taken when an investigation is opened into the causes of the death of a patient,” Kosachev’s lawyer told local television. “What is needed now is the files of his medical history that are found on phones and computers,” he added. Maradona, who fought long struggles with addiction, died at the age of 60 as a result of a heart attack after undergoing brain surgery for a blood clot earlier in November.

The death of Maradona, who led his country to win the World Cup, sparked a wave of grief that spread from Argentina to Naples, Italy, and two sources familiar with the investigations, who asked not to be named, said, “The public prosecution is mainly targeting doctors” during the investigations into Maradona’s death. They said the investigation was looking into possible accidental homicide or medical negligence.

Maradona’s lawyer, Matthias Morla, said last week that he would request a full investigation into the circumstances of the soccer star’s death, criticizing the emergency service’s performance as slow.
