The process of maintaining the temperature of the vaccine at ideal conditions from start to finish is called the cold chain. That way the public knows that the quality of the vaccines is maintained from the start until the vaccination.
dr. Elizabeth Jane Soepardi, MPH, Immunization Specialist explained, “Wherever the vaccine comes from, it will go through our vaccine factory at PT Bio Farma. They already have a fleet to receive and distribute vaccines. So we already have vaccine depots. Then the province already has a cold room, or a special storage cabinet, ”he said at the Press Conference for the Spokesperson for Handling COVID-19 which was held by the Committee for Handling COVID-19 and National Economic Recovery (KPCPEN), Monday (30/11/2020).
Indonesia has years of experience in implementing vaccination programs. The distribution process of vaccines in Indonesia can be carried out from Aceh to Papua and is already using a good cold chain system to all corners of the country. Special refrigerated storage cabinets in the province can store vaccines for a period of 3-6 months with temperatures maintained at 2-8 degrees Celsius. This delivery is then carried out gradually to the district / city level to the hospital and puskesmas. When leaving the cold room, the vaccine must be quickly put into a temporary box specially designed to keep the temperature on the way.
Given that vaccinations must be carried out regularly in order to maintain their quality, dr. Elizabeth explained, “Ideally the vaccine administration should be scheduled, on what date, what time and where is it located. Both officers who provide services and the community must know, so that in due time the service providers and those served will meet regularly. By arranging the schedule ahead of time, it is hoped that the service process will take place more quickly. A maximum of one person only needs 10 minutes to be served from registration to vaccination, ”said dr. Elizabeth.
On the same occasion, Erlang Purbaya, Survivor of COVID-19 explained that the public should not be skeptical of COVID-19 because this disease is really contagious with very minimal symptoms, so that someone is unknowingly infected with COVID-19. Erlang’s initial suspicion was when he contracted COVID-19 because he felt his sense of smell was not functioning. “The only symptom I feel is loss of smell. At that time I also registered for the swab test, the results were positive, ”explained Erlang.
Just like Erlang Purbaya, his colleague Erra Anggoro also feels the same way. But apart from losing his smell, he also felt short of breath and needed to be isolated at the Special Covid-19 Referral Hospital at Wisma Atlit, Central Jakarta. Erra also advised other people to keep their distance, wash their hands and wear masks obediently to avoid this dangerous COVID-19.
“For other citizens, learn from Erra and me, stick to 3M’s Health protocol. If you don’t need to go outside and just hang out, it’s better to just stay at home, ”concluded Erlang.
