The Minister of Health: AIDS treatment is covered by 100% and treatment is free of charge

Hala Zayed, Minister of Health and Population, confirmed that AIDS is a global problem that can affect anyone in the world, and added that the treatment protocols for the disease have been updated according to the latest version.

The Minister of Health clarified that the ministry began fighting AIDS 25 years ago, noting that Egypt is committed to implementing global and international strategies to combat the disease, and is also determined to achieve the goals of sustainable development with speedy provision of care for patients diagnosed with the disease.

This came during the Ministry of Health and Population celebrating the 32nd International AIDS Day under the slogan “Towards global solidarity and sustainable coverage of services.”

The Minister of Health and Population continued: The Ministry is urging the provision of health care to AIDS patients for life, while the Ministry provides services for treating chronic diseases for these patients, noting that 13 new AIDS treatment centers have been opened, so that health coverage becomes 100% in all governorates at the time the opening of 18 A unit for treating viruses for mental health hospitals, including AIDS, confirming that treatment is dispensed to AIDS patients for a period of 3 months since the beginning of the Corona pandemic, registering all treatment drugs, and activating electronic systems to record and track patients.

The Minister of Health added that self-destructing syringes are used to prevent the spread of AIDS and blood-borne viruses, pointing to the provision of training programs on treatment protocols.

The Arab Republic of Egypt is one of the countries recognized as a country of low prevalence among the general population (0.02%), with some evidence of epidemics concentrated among the most vulnerable groups such as young people (from the age of 15 to 49 years) and there is a local study estimated that an AIDS patient costs the state about one million pounds. In its entire lifespan, however, there has been an annual increase in newly discovered cases of about 25-35% each year over the past 10 years.
