Iran’s revenge after the death of the nuclear scientist in Tehran

Teheran

Revenge Iran on the death penalty for murder nuclear scientist his latest sparked debate. The scientist’s body has now been given its final respects before burial.

As reported AFP, Monday (11/30/2020), Iranian nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh died from his injuries during a gun battle between his bodyguards and a group of gunmen in Tehran last week.

Two days later, the Iranian parliament asked international inspectors for Iran’s nuclear sites to stop inspections. Top Iranian officials have signaled that Iran must abandon the global non-proliferation deal.

Iran’s Supreme National Security Council usually handles decisions regarding Iran’s nuclear program and the draft law from the parliament must be approved by the Iranian Guardian Council. President Hassan Rouhani has stressed that Iran will take revenge at the “right time” and will not rush into the “trap”.

The head of the Iranian Beneficiary Council – an advisory and arbitration body, Mohsen Rezai, stated “there is no reason why (Iran) should not reconsider the Nuclear Proliferation Treaty”. Rezai said Iran should also stop implementing additional protocols – documents governing inspections of Iranian nuclear facilities.

ISNA news agency reported, Rezai called for Iran’s atomic agency to take “minimum steps” such as “to stop online broadcast cameras, reduce or suspend inspectors and impose restrictions on their access” on Iran’s nuclear sites.

Meanwhile, the head of the Iranian parliament, Mohammad-Bagher Galibaf, called for a “strong reaction” which would “deter and take revenge” against those behind Fakhrizadeh’s murder. The Iranian parliament insisted that the “best response” to the assassination was “to revive Iran’s glorious nuclear industry”.

In a statement signed by 290 members of the Iranian parliament, it said the killings showed Israel, the United States (US) and their allies had become “brazen” in “terror and sabotage” against Iran.

The statement called on inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to be prohibited from visiting Iran’s nuclear sites. Several Iranian lawmakers have previously accused IAEA inspectors of acting as “spies” potentially responsible for Fakhrizadeh’s death.
