CBS: In the first wave, 665 people died of corona in this region

BAARN Between the beginning of March and the end of June of this year, 665 people died in the GGD region of Utrecht from the effects of the corona virus. That is 17.6 percent of the total number of deaths in that period. The number of corona deaths per hundred thousand inhabitants is 49.1. More than half (58.2 percent) of the people who died of corona were in a nursing home, a care home or other care facility.

This is evident from figures from the Central Bureau of Statistics. In the period from March to June, more than ten thousand Dutch people died from the corona virus. The statistics office listed the number of people who died from a confirmed or suspected infection with the corona virus per region. The virus hit especially hard in the south of the Netherlands.

Of all deaths from March to June, one in six was due to corona. Of those deaths, almost six in ten made use of care under the Long-term Care Act (Wlz) and were in a nursing home, care home, other care institution or received care from home.

In the GGD region of Utrecht, the 26 municipalities belong to the province of Utrecht.
