Russia accuses Germany of fabricating the Navalny poisoning case

The Russian delegation said it was a “fake story launched by Germany” as part of its “mass disinformation campaign”.

Russian authorities have said no strong evidence has been found that Navalny has been poisoned by Novichok.

On August 20, 44-year-old Navalny was ill during a flight from Tomsk to Moscow and was unconsciously taken to Omsk Hospital.

On August 22, Navalny was transferred from Russia to Germany, where he was treated by the Charite clinic at the University of Berlin.

On 2 September, Germany stated that indisputable evidence had been obtained that Navalny had been poisoned by a nerve-paralyzing war substance belonging to the Novichok group. This conclusion has also been confirmed by French and Swedish laboratories and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.

The Russian delegation to the OPCW has rejected the findings of foreign laboratories and accused Germany of using the case to exert political pressure and sanctions on Russia.

In a separate statement, the German delegation reiterated the use of the “Novichok” incident in Russia against Navalny, which “threatens the Chemical Weapons Convention and common security”.

Germany believes that chemical weapons have no place in the 21st century,” the German delegation said.
