8th division amateurs draw Tottenham into the FA Cup | FA Cup

In the almost 150-year history of the FA Cup, Marine is only the 2nd club from the 8th division to make it to the 3rd round. It also does that with the necessary drama.

In the first round it had beaten Colchester, a fourth division team, on penalties and in the second round it settled fifth division Havant & Waterlooville, thanks to a goal in the 120th minute.

Now, Marine, which takes its name from the name of the hotel where the club was founded in the late 19th century, has to outdo itself many times over. Tottenham is expected in early January at Rossett Park, a stadium near Livepool that can accommodate just over 3,000 spectators.

“This is an incredible draw for us,” said Neil Young, Marine’s coach. “We will prepare ourselves as well as possible. José (Mourinho) usually sends fairly strong teams into the field.”

“We won 7 times to get here. This is our reward.”
