Unofficial: Parents without childcare allowance during Christmas and winter holidays

The additional care allowance is to be suspended for the duration of the Christmas and New Year break, as well as the winter break. This is the initial government plan – RMF FM journalists found out unofficially.

It follows from the regulations currently in force that additional care allowance is valid until December 24 inclusive, that is until Christmas Eve.

Carer’s allowance returns. It will be available from November 9

Until that date, parents of children under eight who have to stay at home due to school closure and cannot work can count on an allowance. The Social Insurance Institution pays them 80 percent of their salary.

Initial government plan can be a big problem for parents.

According to the government’s decision, the winter holidays will be held on one date from January 4 to 17, ie right after the New Year. The benefit will not apply during this time. Parents will therefore have to work from home, or – if this is impossible – take a vacation.

A similar situation occurred during the holidays.
