Škoda has had to solve the problem of the sound of its electric car or plug-in hybrid several times, most recently with the Superb iV model. It was for him that the E-noise system was created, which was recently introduced in the electric SUV Enyaq iV. According to Škoda, it will soon be common for each electric car to have its own, characteristic sound. It was created for Enyaq under the baton of the carmaker’s developer Pavel Orendáš.

“The Enyaq iV is a purely electric vehicle, so it was quite a challenge to tune the sound to fit its identity. The sound was tuned in the concern’s acoustic laboratory, and from the beginning one thing was obvious: it must be clearly different from the sound made by plug-in hybrid cars, “said Orendáš.

Music composers and producers also took part in the sound of Škoda Enyaq.

Enyaq got this characteristic starting sound for speeds from 0 to 25 km / h, because it is in them that the electric car normally makes almost no sound. Even composers took part in the development, and the resulting sound suits the individual models on the shared MEB platform. To listen, Enyaq does not sound like a combustion car, but rather like a vehicle from the future, which was the goal of the development team.

After the creation, Pavel Orendáš and his colleagues were afraid of how people would react to the completely unusual sound of the car, which is why Enyaq tried it with a selected group of volunteers. Finally, the team also presented the sound to Škoda’s management, followed by measurements to comply with the legislation.

In cities, quiet electric cars can be dangerous to pedestrians. Therefore, it must emit a warning sound.

Sound in Enyaq releases a new generator, which Škoda has also created for all cars on the innovative MEB platform.

“The broadband speaker and electronics are integrated together into one one-liter box. As part of the development, this design bore the working designation OneBox. Above all, the solution made it possible to optimize the weight. For perfect sound and minimal response to the car structure, three rubber bushings are used when mounting on the cooling module, ”described the system’s chief engineer of the entire project.
