Washington, Beritasatu.com- The United States (US) reported the highest daily Covid-19 infection cases since the pandemic occurred in the country, as Thanksgiving celebrations. Nearly 200,000 cases were recorded on Friday (27/11) with the total infection cases reaching more than 13 million.
A total of 194,317 new cases and 1,374 deaths were reported across the country as of Friday, according to the US Covid-19 Tracking Project. It took only six days for the US to add 1 million new infections. The day marks the 20th consecutive day that the increase in daily cases in the US surpassed the 100,000 mark. There are currently nearly 90,000 hospitalized Covid-19 patients across the US.
“A few weeks ago we were worried about the potential for 100,000 new cases to occur in a day. Now, we are going to hospitalize 100,000 Americans with Covid, ”said Eric Topol, professor of molecular medicine at Scripps Research.
So far, the US has recorded more than 4 million official cases of Covid-19 in November, representing about 30% of the total cases since the country was hit by the pandemic. Thus data from Johns Hopkins University.
Researchers have warned that the total number of cases of infection is still less than it actually is. This is due to the limited availability of tests, especially at the start of the pandemic.
Public health officials have urged Americans to celebrate Thanksgiving this year fairly at home. Residents are asked not to travel. The public is asked to just gather outside the room, to avoid further spreading the virus.
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued new guidelines last Friday urging Americans to stay home and not travel for Thanksgiving. However, millions of Americans still travel for the Thanksgiving holiday.
