According to the commission, two samples were taken from a refrigerated warehouse from frozen beef from Brazil and the third from another warehouse from frozen fish from Vietnam. Local authorities sealed the products and conducted molecular swabs on personnel who had direct contact with food, placing them in quarantine. All the results so far have been negative. Shipments of frozen food from which contaminated samples were taken had not been placed on the market.

China has stepped up efforts to block the spread of Covid-19 through imported foods. In mid-November, the Ministry of Transport released a set of guidelines to prevent the transmission of Covid-19 via frozen foods imported by road and water transport. The Council of State’s joint prevention and control mechanism against Covid-19 also presented a plan to implement chain-wide, closed-loop, traceable management of imported frozen foods.
