YouTube supports 8k videos on televisions with version 10 of Android TV – IT Pro – News

This bitrate previously just went up per resolution so that will be the case now.

Due to the lack of bitrate, 4k Youtube also looked better than 1080p on a 1080p screen.

That will also apply to 8k on a 4k screen, but they probably won’t activate 8k video on a 4k screen

So if you can force it to H264, where the bitrate for VP9 is only a bit 20% lower for everything, that is almost 4X lower at 8K!
