The Talavera taxi will only carry two passengers per vehicle due to Covid-19 restrictions
The new restrictions imposed by Health in the face of the increase in cases of coronavirus in Talavera (Toledo) have also reached the taxi sector, which now must adhere to an occupation of 50% of its capacity.
This is a measure that the Teletaxi Talavera Association still did not know yesterday how it would affect them economically.
On this point, the president of the group, Raúl Cruz, explained to La Tribuna de Toledo that they still do not know if this limitation will translate into more services without more than two passengers who want to travel, since they can only carry two passengers in the part rear of the vehicle, or if, on the contrary, it will cause them to stop using this means of transport for the same reason and opt for another or by walking.
Until now, taxis could carry three passengers in the back of the car and, if there were four passengers, one more could even be placed in the passenger seat.
However, since March the number of services has fallen considerably, and the sector is “in ruin”, since it has gone from having an average of 12,000 calls a month to 800 as last April, as confirmed by the president of Talavera taxi drivers.
Now, Cruz said, this data has improved somewhat, hovering around 5,000 calls a month, although taxi drivers have had to reduce their working days and rest on weekends and a working day to distribute between the 34 that are the work that has . “If we remove cars, someone else will do something else,” he stressed.
