Pyongyang –
Leader North Korea (Jewelry), Kim Jong-Un, reportedly angry and taking irrational steps due to the pandemic corona virus (COVID-19) is rampant globally and its impact on the North Korean economy. Two people considered to have worsened North Korea’s economic situation amid the pandemic have been executed.
As reported Associated Press, Friday (27/11/2020), information about the current situation in North Korea was revealed by a member of parliament South Korea (South Korea), which received the latest briefing and explanation from the South Korean National Intelligence Service (NIS), in a closed session in parliament this week.
The South Korean lawmaker named Ha Tae-keung said that the NIS called Kim Jong-Un showing “excessive anger” and taking “irrational action” regarding the Corona pandemic and its economic impact on North Korea.
According to the NIS report as quoted by Ha, North Korea has executed a businessman money changer quite famous in Pyongyang, last month, after the businessman was found responsible for a decline in the currency exchange rate.
Separately, the North Korean monitoring group in Seoul noted that the North Korean Won’s exchange rate against the US dollar had recently fallen significantly as people found few places to use foreign currency after smuggling was largely halted due to the pandemic’s closure of China’s border.
Still according to Ha, the NIS report also stated that North Korea had executed a top official in August. The official was deemed to have violated North Korean government regulations that restrict goods brought from abroad. The identities of the two people who were executed are not further stated.
So far, North Korea has insisted that it has not detected a single coronavirus case in its territory – a claim disputed by overseas experts. But it is also known that North Korea is making massive efforts to prevent the spread of Corona.
