As Greta Gargasiene, a representative of the Lithuanian National Center for Public Health (NVSC), said at a press conference, one could hope that this week the disease situation will break. According to her, there is no longer an exponential increase in morbidity, and this can be considered a good sign. The number of infections is still growing, but this can be explained by some carelessness, which was observed before the quarantine on November 7.
Gargasiene has especially emphasized that there are currently no outbreaks associated with entertainment venues.
A total of 53,757 people were diagnosed with the virus in Lithuania, and recovery was confirmed in 12,655 people.
11,312 analyzes were performed in the previous day, thus 18.6% of tests were positive. A total of 1,211,062 analyzes were performed in Lithuania.
A total of 449 people died of Covid-19 virus disease in Lithuania, but another 194 people infected with the virus had a different cause of death.
In the last day, 17 people in the age groups of 40 to 99 have died. The highest number of deaths – ten – was registered in Vilnius district.
Lithuanian hospitals are currently treating 1,704 Covid-19 patients, 121 of whom are in resuscitation wards, 75 patients require artificial lung ventilation, and 916 people are treated with oxygen masks, according to the Ministry of Health.
Due to the large number of newly detected cases, the analysis of infection conditions has not yet been performed for a third of them. In 203 of the cases already analyzed, the conditions of infection could not be determined, while the cases identified were mainly related to the outbreaks in several dozen medical and social care institutions. At least 134 cases registered during the past day were related to foci in families, another 69 were detected in educational institutions.
According to the NVSC representative, more than 3,200 Lithuanian physicians are currently suffering from Covid-19, but of the 4,486 cases of physician infections recorded throughout the epidemic, more than 90% were detected in September and October alone.
According to the National Public Health Center, the 14-day cumulative number of infections per 100,000 population on November 26 in Lithuania is 858.6. According to the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), this figure is 837.2.
In Estonia, on the other hand, since the beginning of the Covid-19 epidemic, this is the highest number of infections registered in one day.
As a result, the number of confirmed infections in Estonia has reached 10,955, and 4,977 people have been confirmed to recover.
A total of 99 people died of the Covid-19 virus disease in Estonia.
5645 analyzes were performed in the previous day, thus 7.4% of tests were positive. A total of 458,690 tests have been performed in Estonia to detect infection with the new coronavirus.
The hospitals are currently treating 183 Covid-19 patients, 19 of whom are in intensive care and seven of whom require artificial lung ventilation. The number of hospitalized Covid-19 patients increased by 20 last day.
