RIVM director Jaap van Dissel is gloomy about the relaxation of the corona measures in December. “It is slow and difficult with the fall in infection rates. This means that healthcare is still too much of a burden. It is getting too uncertain to make a prediction. I am sad that we can celebrate Christmas together, ”said Van Dissel in Nieuwsuur.

According to Van Dissel, Christmas can also act as a catalyst when people get together too much. “A week later, New Year’s Eve is on the program again. If we also celebrate that together, the virus can only spread even more. ”

Earlier this week, the Outbreak Management Team (OMT) also advised not to relax the corona measures in December.

According to Van Dissel, it depends on us when corona will be under control. “We can control many factors ourselves. If everyone has received a vaccination in the second quarter of next year, I expect that we will be able to resume our ‘normal’ life by the summer. ”
