Parallel racing is when there are no outsiders. And when top riders are kicked out early. This is exactly what you can see in Lech-Zürs (Austria). The best Swiss woman is Lara Gut-Behrami in third place – her 51st podium. In the morning the Ticino woman is still the fastest, later she fails to Paula Moltzan (USA), who was never better than tenth before. Ultimately, Moltzan came second. Only Petra Vlhova (“Now I’m Broken”) is faster. After her double victory in Levi, the Slovak manages a hat trick. In the overall World Cup, she captures her greatest opponents.

What else will be remembered from this ski day? Little. In the qualification, 8 out of 9 Swiss women are eliminated. A debacle. Wendy Holdener completely brakes the first qualifying run and, despite the increase, can no longer make up for this mortgage – only 16 drivers (out of 71) reach the finals. “That is bitter. She put the ski too hard, ”says technology trainer Alois Prenn. Holdener drives back to the hotel without a word.

Back to Gut-Behrami: 3rd place is the best parallel result of her career. But she doesn’t expect much of a top placement. “I don’t really love these races,” she says. In fact, there are hardly any challenges on the Voralberger slope. And: At the World Championships in Cortina in February, parallel slaloms will be driven again and not giant slaloms.
