Urges to freeze the salaries of government and parliamentary secretaries

Valery Agesin, chairman of the “Harmony” group, said that in the context of the crisis caused by Covid-19, the country’s top officials should show solidarity with the country’s population and freeze salaries.

Deputy Regina Ločmele (S) said that the draft state budget for 2021 prepared by the government “is not just a waste, but a crime against the people”, emphasizing that it is not clear “for which ministers are going to raise their salaries”. “Is the fact that the preferential tax regime for micro-enterprises is being abolished during the pandemic and tens of thousands of Latvians are left without income in the conditions of a partial” arcade “?!” angry politician.

Meanwhile, the party association “New Unity” (JV) is ready to “seek a solution” to freeze the salaries of members of the Cabinet of Ministers, party leader Arvils Asheradens admitted.

Responding to the call of the coalition partner – the New Conservative Party (YKP) – not to increase the salaries of either the prime minister or the ministers next year, Asheraden said that in the JV’s view, solidarity with the whole society is very important at this time.

“We will find a good legal framework for freezing wage increases,” the politician promised.

As reported, “delaying next year’s state budget review process”, the New Conservative Party (JRC) urges the coalition to not increase salaries for the Prime Minister or ministers next year.

JKP board member Krišjānis Feldmans said that when analyzing the budget review process, it is a disappointment that the Minister of Finance Jānis Reirs (JV), Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš (JV) and the Ministry of Finance have left the draft budget to their fate, never answering questions and criticism for “my work”.

The chairman of the JKP faction Juris Jurašs will go to discuss this situation with the other coalition factions, urging not to support in the budget the proposals related to raising the salaries of the prime minister and ministers. It is possible that there may also be discussions about the parliamentary secretaries of the ministries, because, for example, the parliamentary secretary of the Ministry of Finance Atis Zakatistovs has never defended the budget in the debate.

Accordingly, the JKP will also agree to the request of President Egils Levits not to increase the president’s salary next year.
