The electronic contract was signed on Thursday by Lubor Koudelka, Deputy Minister of Defense for the Management of the Armaments and Acquisitions Section, and Jiří Sadílek, CEO of Glomex MS. “Finally, we managed to pay off our long-standing debt to the soldiers. The framework agreement is valid until 2024, but there is nothing to wait for and we want to order 800 new vehicles in the next two years, “said Minister of Defense Lubomír Metnar (for YES).
The military required multi-purpose personal all-terrain vehicles for logistics and security tasks. Cars in the service of soldiers should move exclusively outside the possible battlefield. They will be used, for example, to transport people or supply. They can hold five people.
The ministry has previously stated that the military requires machines in the same form as they are manufactured for civilian use. For example, they will not be armored, but soldiers require, for example, holders for assault rifles or khaki paint. “If everything goes according to plan, the soldiers will get the first Toyota in the second half of next year,” said Koudelka.
Representatives of the company said that the cars that Glomex will supply are powered by a 110 kW diesel engine. “This is the latest version of the Double Cab with space for up to five people after the facelift, which was introduced by the manufacturer in mid-2020,” the company said.
In particular, Toyota should replace obsolete Soviet UAZ cars
The new cars are to replace the old British Land Rover and especially the Soviet UAZ cars, which the domestic army has been using since the first half of the 1970s. The UAZ 469 passenger off-road vehicle was originally made in Russia, later it was also manufactured in Czechoslovakia, and after 1993 Czech soldiers used it, among other things, on an Afghan mission.
