Argentina is deeply saddened by the departure of Diego Maradona.
Argentines crowded the streets of the capital, Buenos Aires, and shed tears in a mourning ceremony as soon as the sad news of the departure of the legend Diego Maradona was heard.
Fans held wreaths near Maradona’s former club, Boca Juniors, while others congregated in the neighborhood of San Andres in which he lived and in the city of La Plata, where he was recently coaching the Gymnasia Asgherima.
Illuminated electronic signs on public transport around the city carry the words “Thank you Diego”.
“The truth for me is that Diego represents everything. As a fan of Boca and as an Argentine, we are in deep sadness,” said Jose Luis Shuquifa, 53, a resident of Buenos Aires, who wore a T-shirt bearing the image of Maradona.
“I am very sad because he was a part of our childhood and adolescence,” said Marella Bargh, a lawyer in Buenos Aires. “Thinking about him brings us back to our memories of celebrating the 1986 World Cup.”
