On July 18, 1991, PS politician André Cools is shot on the street in Liège. Cools was a leader among the French-speaking socialists, but during the facts he was no longer politically active. The investigation into the murder took a long time, the court revealed a lot of scandals within the PS during its search.
The public prosecutor’s office appointed Cools’ political successor Alain Van der Biest as the ultimate client. Van der Biest committed suicide before the trial in 2002 and continued to insist that he was innocent. The ultimate perpetrators, including Solazzo, came from Van der Biest’s entourage and had links with the Liège-Italian mafia.
