A new skiing experience awaits Ester Ledecká in the World Cup. On Thursday, in the Austrian resort of Lech / Zürs, he will take part in the start of a parallel giant slalom, which is, on the other hand, a discipline that he knows well from snowboarding. Martina Dubovská will also take part, shining twelfth and tenth place in the weekend slaloms in Levi.
Ledecká is not entirely sure whether she can capitalize on her snowboarding experience in Austria. “So far, in the trainings, which I had quite a few, I was quite confused by the second ski and the poles,” said the two-time Olympic winner from Pyongyang with a laugh in the media recording.
“We thought on the team that I would be fast at the start, that I had the reaction learned from snowboarding there. But we found out that I am by far the slowest of the ones we trained with. So I definitely have something to catch up with and see if anything works out. good ride, “said Ledecká, who started the SP season with 20th place in the giant slalom in Sölden.
So far, she intends to focus on the morning qualification and would like to make it to the evening finals under artificial lighting. “It would be great to be in the top 30, but there was little training. I’m on the snow almost every day, but I do two sports,” she reminded.
“The gates are very close to each other here, it’s actually such a slalom on turning. It will suit specialists in rotating disciplines, unfortunately I am not yet, but I will fight,” Ledecká promised.
American skier Mikaela Shiffrin, who preferred training, will not perform in Lech / Zürs. In the weekend slaloms in Lapland she took second and fifth place, both races were won by her biggest rival in this discipline Petra Vlhová from Slovakia.
