Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – PT Bank Maybank Indonesia Tbk (BNII) ‘s commitment to replace customer funds belonging to Esports athlete Winda Lunardi worth Rp 22 billion has not been fully fulfilled. Maybank Indonesia said that it would only replace Winda’s funds amounting to Rp 16.8 billion.
This was conveyed by Maybank Indonesia’s spokesperson, Tommy Hersyaputera, who said that Maybank management conveyed this readiness to pay in a mediation process facilitated by the Financial Services Authority’s Consumer Protection Department.
“Currently, the mediation process facilitated by the Consumer Protection Department, the Financial Services Authority is still ongoing. Through this mediation, we have stated our readiness to replace Rp. 16.8 billion. While the rest are still waiting for the investigation process by friends in the Police,” said Tommy, when contacted by CNBC Indonesia, Tuesday (11/24/2020).
Although the value of this compensation capacity is lower than Winda’s loss of Rp 22 billion, Tommy said, the rest would still be pending from the results of the Police investigation.
Thus, it is hoped that it will clarify who the parties received the flow of funds from Winda’s account managed by Albert, the suspect who is also the Head of the Maybank Cipulir Branch.
“We ask for the cooperation of all parties for us to respect the investigation process that is still being carried out by friends in the Police, which we hope will further clarify the roles of parties receiving funds,” he said.
A CNBC Indonesia source with knowledge of this information admitted that as of today, Tuesday, November 24, 2020 there has been no realization of a refund from Maybank.
In fact, it has been more than a week since the bank, whose shares are controlled by Sorak Financial Holdings Pte Ltd and Maybank Pffshore Corporate Services, took the initiative to convey Winda’s refund scheme, which disappeared from his savings on 16 November.
“Until now, Maybank has not compensated for the losses,” said a CNBC Indonesia source with knowledge of the information, Tuesday (11/24/2020).
Previously, Maybank Indonesia’s attorney Hotman Paris Hutapea also proposed an urge to replace Winda’s funds. He admitted that he had ordered Maybank to replace the funds belonging to Winda Lunardi and his mother who had disappeared for Rp. 22 billion in his savings account.
“With good faith, I told Maybank to pay even though this oddity is very serious,” he said in a talk show on KompasTV.
Hotman continued, amidst these pros and cons, Maybank will certainly pay for Winda’s losses. Not only that, he also said Maybank was a large bank with total assets reaching Rp 175 trillion.
“We maybank will pay. Tell Winda and her father to Kopi Johny, I will try Maybank to pay as long as with win win solution, this is my promise, Maybank is willing to pay even if there is an awkwardness like this,” he said.
