LIVE | French ski areas no longer open this year due to corona | Inland

The French ski areas, which are also very popular with the Dutch, are certainly not allowed to reopen in time for the Christmas holidays due to the corona crisis. According to French President Macron, a start in January is more likely.

In a TV speech about relaxation of the corona measures, Macron said the risks of the coronavirus make it “impossible” for winter sports to resume quickly. Macron said he will consult with his European partners to coordinate the start dates for the winter season.

It is preferable, Macron said, to schedule a reopening of the areas in January, but only if conditions are right. He promised to provide new information in early December.

Some regions in the French Alps are corona fires at the moment. Health authorities have already warned that hospitals there can quickly become completely full with crowds of skiers from France and abroad.

France has a total of 350 ski areas with 120,000 employees in the high season. Winter sports yield an estimated 10 billion euros annually.
