Administrative reform: “Everything from a single source”

AMSTETTEN. The areas of environment, energy and sustainability, social affairs and housing, education, culture and tourism are to be centralized in the Amstetten city administration.

AMSTETTEN. In the course of 2021, the administration of the environment, energy and sustainability, social and housing, education as well as culture and tourism in Amstetten is to be reformed. These areas are centralized under the motto “Everything from a single source”. Mayor Christian Haberhauer (ÖVP) defines the goal of the Refomen as follows: “The goal is to improve and optimize the service for the people of Amstetten.”

Environment, energy, social issues and housing

All topics relating to the environment, energy and sustainability, social affairs and living are brought together in one department in order to bundle all competencies, reports Vice Mayor Dominic Hörlezeder (Greens).

education

The area of education from kindergarten to adult education will in future be looked after as a large whole centrally by a department of the city administration. Education Councilor Doris Koch (ÖVP) emphasizes the importance of this step, which should enable optimal cooperation between the schools and the city. The adult education center is also woven into this concept. Koch: “In addition to the compulsory schools, we are also working closely with the higher schools on an overall concept for the Amstetten location.”

An important point is the expansion of the digitization of schools. As a first step, all schools are to be connected to the fiber optic network.

Umbrella brand culture program Amstetten

The cards are also being reshuffled in the field of culture and tourism. In the future, culture will be divided into the areas of summer musical, mainstream and culture for Amstetten and its districts. Professional management of the existing buildings, including associated marketing, is planned. The coordination of the AVB events in the Pölz-Halle, Ulmerfeld Castle, in the town hall, in the Remise, in Mozart and in the taverns is under the umbrella brand “Kulturprogramm Amstetten”. City Councilor for Culture Stefan Jandl (ÖVP) expects proven formats such as the Ars Femina and the Culture Weeks to be expanded in this way and explains that each house hosting the event has its own specialty. The centralization is also intended to prevent scheduling overlaps – such as two competing cabaret events in one evening.

tourism

In the field of tourism, which is also one of Jandl’s agendas, he sees new opportunities for Amstetten. Jandl recalls that Amstetten was the venue for major sporting events, but that it benefited too little from tourism.

Jandl hopes that the application for the national exhibition 2026, in which Ulmerfeld Castle will play a central role, will give tourism a boost. Jandl: “Ulmerfeld Castle will be our flagship with great luminosity.”

Fixed timetable

When presenting the project, Mayor Haberhauer did not want to say in which personnel the reform would be implemented. But he expects savings from the fact that “employees are merged”. The project is approved in the local council in December. Haberhauer did not want to specify how far the project had been agreed with the SPÖ. Implementation will begin in the second half of 2021.
