PS5 Blu-ray disc drive runs every hour for no reason

This was noticed by some PS5 owners when they started using the console. The Blu-ray drive of the Sony console seems to turn on and run every hour in between. This also happens when a game is played from the SSD and the Blu-ray drive is not in use. On Reddit a user came up with a report of this ‘bug’, after which many agreed. The running of the Blu-ray disc drive was noticeable because the console is so mouse-quiet.

Some users reported that this is probably just a check of the internal systems such as the DRM, but the console does not need to crank the Blu-ray for that. Why the PS5’s disc drive turns on exactly. is still unknown. Sony has not yet responded to this report from the PS5 owners.
