President Trump had asked for a recount to ensure that every legal vote is counted fairly, his lawyers say. Previously they lost lawsuits against the election results in Georgia. Trump could request a new count because the difference between the candidates is less than 0.5 percentage point.
The authorities had previously recounted the votes because Biden in Georgia gained a lead of only about 14,000 votes. After six days of recounting, Biden’s lead had shrunk to 12,670 votes, but he still turned out to be the winner.
Fraud
Trump refuses to admit defeat in the Nov. 3 presidential election. He says there has been fraud without providing any evidence. With his attitude he thwarts a smooth transfer of power.
Michigan, another state that proved decisive for Biden’s nationwide victory, has now officially confirmed that Trump’s Democratic challenger is the winner there. That’s another setback for the Republican president. In Michigan too, Trump is trying to turn the result in his favor, hoping to still get a majority.
Trump’s legal team responded to the confirmation of the Michigan state election outcome by saying it will continue to try to overturn the election outcome through lawsuits. One of the president’s legal advisers called confirmation of the result “simply a procedural step.”
