Next year, TV Nova will end the series Surgery in the Rose Garden, which it has been broadcasting since 2005. It announced its intention in a press release. The program decision comes in the year when the previously unshakable format lost a direct duel with the competing series Slunečná on TV Prima and vacated the traditional Tuesday evening slot.
Last year, the surgery was closed by an average of 1.1 million spectators, this year the average viewership did not exceed 900,000 people. In times of greatest glory, more than two million Czechs sat down for episodes in the series. Despite the decline in viewership, however, Ordinace is one of the most successful TV Nova program formats.
“It’s an emotional affair for us, most of us have grown old with the series, it’s hard to find any comparisons. If a show keeps its place in prime time for more than 15 years and is also broadcast two episodes a week, it is simply a phenomenon that will not just disappear, “said Monika Hasmanová, Production Director of TV Nova.
“But we are not saying the last word yet and we have a busy season ready, which in 2021 will bring countless dramatic situations, tensions, loving moments and moments full of emotions in a dose that the audience has not yet experienced. We are looking forward to it and we want to really enjoy it together with the audience, “added Hasmanová.
The exact date of the last broadcast is not yet known. However, the Surgery will regularly appear on screens throughout the spring of 2021.
