Henri Lenferink thinks that they should not be a member of the polling stations in March next year. Former councilors Wilbert Hettinga (CDA) and Jan Laurier (GroenLinks) are outraged, writes the Leidsch Dagblad.
Laurier, who was not only a councilor in Leiden, but also an alderman and a member of the Senate, finds it ‘an outrageous form of age discrimination’. He has filed a complaint with the national reporting center for discrimination.
Hettinga accuses the mayor of using ‘excuses and occasional arguments’.
Lenferink says the measure is intended to protect the voters, but even more so the over-70s in question, from Covid-19. He denies that there is any age discrimination.
Laurier: ‘What the mayor is doing now is simply excluding people. Be happy that people are so committed to society. ‘
