November has so far been very mild, but that may change later this week.

In the past three weeks it even regularly set new daily records, because it was so hot for the time of year. “This week the temperatures are a lot more normal and at the end of the week it is quite possible that we can already smell a bit of winter”, reports weatherman Alfred Snoek of Weerplaza.
This night there will be little wind and it will clear everywhere regularly. It remains practically dry and the temperature can drop considerably, especially inland. In various places the mercury drops to just a little above freezing and in sheltered places even a degree of frost is not excluded. Snoek: “Some people who do go out by car tomorrow morning may have to scratch the car windows before leaving and some wooden bridges in the residential areas may be a bit slippery.”
In the night from Monday to Tuesday, the temperature can also drop locally to around freezing point. “This is quite normal for the time of year,” says Snoek. “During the day with 9 or 10 degrees it will not be really cold for the next few days, certainly not because the wind is not too strong. The chances of rain are small for the time being, maybe a little bit of rain will fall from the clouds on Thursday. ”
Much colder
From Thursday the weather changes and from Friday it can get a lot colder. “But real frost is not present above Eastern Europe at that time,” says Snoek. “Only well north of the line Oslo – Stockholm – Helsinki will the temperatures not rise above zero next weekend. In cities such as Warsaw, Prague and Berlin, the temperature will remain well above freezing on Friday and Saturday. ”
Classic winter weather is not coming our way yet. “Still, the supply of soft air from the south and west seems to be cut off for the time being, and then fans of winter cold will have the time of the year quite along,” said Snoek. During the long nights it can cool down considerably during clearances and the risk of night frost increases. During the short days, the temperature eventually only rises above 5 degrees with difficulty. Even a somewhat lower maximum temperature is possible locally if fog or low-hanging clouds occur during the cold nights, which turns out to be very persistent during the day. ”
Loose screws
Partly due to the somewhat colder end of this month, a record warm November has not been achieved. In first place is still November 1994 with an average temperature of 10.2 degrees. “This year we have to wait and see what the final score will be, but we will probably end up slightly below 9 degrees”, says Snoek. “With that a ranking in the top 10 of the hottest November months since 1901 seems certain.”
2020 is also still in the race to end as the hottest year ever. Now that is 2014 with an annual average of 11.7 degrees. “Only if that powerful high-pressure area above Scandinavia is developed in December and arctic air is able to frequently flow over our country, will that record be called into question.”
