Liverpool –
Liverpool not only picking three points when meeting Leicester City. However, the Reds also posted a new unbeaten streak at home.
Liverpool, which are in tatters, received a test from Leicester as the top of the Premier League standings, Monday (23/11/2020) in the morning WIB, at Anfield.
Without most of its core players, including Mohamed Salah and Jordan Henderson, Liverpool made four substitutions. Leicester is predicted to steal numbers in this party.
However, the fact is that since the referee’s whistle sounded, Leicester have been under pressure from Liverpool. The hosts were 2-0 up in the first half through Jonny Evans and Diogo Jota’s own goals.
In the second half, Liverpool still dominated the game to add a goal in the final minutes of normal time through Roberto Firmino. Liverpool won 3-0 while establishing their position in the top two with Tottenham Hotspur, who topped the standings thanks to goal difference.
The victory over Leicester was sweet for Liverpool as it extended their streak of 64 home games without defeat. This is a new record at the club’s internal level.
The last time Liverpool lost was in a 1-3 defeat to Crystal Palace in April 2017. After that, Liverpool won 53 wins and 11 draws. There have only been five goalless draws in that period.
A total of 169 goals were scored and only 42 conceded, with 34 clean sheets. There were a total of 27 teams that were met Liverpool throughout these 64 matches and 40 players were used to achieve it.
“It’s impressive we can maintain an unbeaten streak at home without fans. Hopefully when they come back, we can still keep that record,” said James Milner who served as captain replacing Jordan Henderson in this match as quoted BBC Sport.
