Portugal celebrates victory in Sunday’s most prestigious MotoGP class in World Championship Championship season Migels Oliveira.
On Sunday, the 2020 season ended with the 14th stage – the Portuguese “Grand Prix” – which was started from the first place by Oliveira, representing the “Red Bull KTM Tech 3” team.
The host, Oliveira, led the race and celebrated the victory, with Australian Jack Miller (Pramac) taking second place in the final lap, leaving behind Franco Morbidelli (Petronas Yamaha) in Italy.
In the previous stage, Spaniard Hoans Mirs (“Suzuki Ecstar”), who secured the title, started the stage from 20th place and withdrew ten laps before the finish.
Nine different drivers – Oliveira, Fabio Quartararo, Brad Binder, Andrea Doviciozo, Morbidelli, Maverik Vigneless, Danilo Petruchi, Alex Rhin and Mirs – celebrated the victories in 14 stages this season. Such a leadership vacuum arose after the first stage was injured by the main favorite Mark Marks, who also did not return to the track to defend the title.
Mirs won the overall standings with 171 points, followed by Morbidelli with 158 points, and Rins was third with 139 points. Doviciozo, Paul Espargaro, Vinjaless and Miller were also nearby.
“Ducati” won the Designers’ Cup, for which it is the first title since 2007. Mira’s performance in the final stage severely undermined Suzuki’s victory in the manufacturer’s standings.
The start of the next season is scheduled for the end of March in Qatar, but a total of 20 stages are planned for next year.
