–
Currently, technology manufacturers are competing to develop rolling screens for smartphones and laptops, and is no exception LG who reportedly filed a roll-up laptop.
LG launched earlier this year with a roll-up TV, and is now moving into the smaller segment of devices with laptops equipped with a 17-inch roll-up panel.
According to the patent image, the 17-inch roll screen will be packaged in a 13.3-inch laptop which can then be expanded when the screen scroll is opened, as quoted by the Gizchina page.
This display is exactly like a Rollable TV LG where the user can determine the size and the system will adjust it. When unrolled, the laptop will resemble a soundbar like a TV.
Unlike standard laptops in general, devices LG it will have a power button on the right side.
The patent also reveals the device appears to have a webcam that can also be rolled up.
Additionally, panten mentions that the rollable display can stand on its own and detach from the dock when it’s not rolled up.
This addresses concerns over the ability of the display to stand on its own when completely unrolled.
The patent also reveals that a mousepad can be externally attached to a keyboard which is then combined on the screen.
A patent application does not necessarily mean that the company is actively working on a particular technology. Sometimes they are just trying to protect ideas and concepts for future use.
Besides laptops, LG It is rumored to be secretly working on a smartphone with a rollable display called Rainbow for release in Q1 2021.
Meanwhile, Oppo earlier this week introduced the Oppo X 2021 concept smartphone with a rollable display.
Samsung is also reportedly developing a roll-screen smartphone, after company executives recently brought a phone that had never appeared in public before, allegedly a roll screen phone.
