Schmallenberg – The city council of Schmallenberg unanimously decided in its meeting on June 25th that every child should have a digital device for home schooling.
To this end, remaining gaps in the federal and state funding programs are to be supplemented by urban equipment / funds. The need was determined on the basis of the results of a survey on the terminal equipment of the students, which was decided by the Committee on Education, Sport, Social Affairs and Culture shortly before the summer holidays.
The council decided to award the contract for 500 tablets at its meeting on August 27th. Now the devices have arrived. They are funded with the funds of the immediate equipment program of the Digital Pact School by the Federal Ministry for Education and Research and the Ministry for Schools and Education of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
The funding amount for Schmallenberg is 128,916.99 euros, with a ten percent city contribution of 143,241.10 euros. This would have meant that around 300 devices could have been purchased. For the 500 iPads that have now been delivered, costs including accessories and equipment amount to almost 250,000 euros.
The city has therefore made a significant contribution from its own resources. The devices are borrowed free of charge and, if they are not borrowed, are available to schools for use in school lessons. 240 devices go to primary schools and 260 devices to secondary schools in the city of Schmallenberg.
